The Vieux-Pont de Laval was built in the 13th century on the site of an old Gallo-Roman ford.
Built in the 13th century, on the site of an ancient Gallo-Roman ford on the Armorique road, the Pont-Vieux has a characteristic donkey-backed profile. Originally comprising four or five arches, it underwent transformations during the construction of the quays. Its parapets were lined with corbelled houses. Until 1779, the Porte Saint-Julien surmounted the first pier towards the suburb of Pont-de-Mayenne, thus defending the access to the city.
