Formerly the chapel of the Castle of Durtal...

In the 11th century, when it was built, it had an architecture and proportions similar to most of the churches in the Baugeois region: a nave of 8m wide. Of the old church, only the Romanesque bell tower and one bay of the nave remain, the rest of the building dates from the 19th century Reserved only for the lords, it became the main church of Durtal in the middle of the 19th century. The foundation of Durtal goes back to the Middle Ages. At this time Agnes widow of Hubert of Champagne gives to Theodore, abbot of Saint Aubin of Angers two churches, that of Gouis and that of Durtal, dedicated to Mary mother of God, whose first destination was the service of the lords and the people of the Castle. The porch belfry located inside the church dates from the 12th century. A major renovation of the church took place in 1878. During the revolution, the wooden crucifix was taken out of the church and dragged through the streets. The church is open to the public every day.
