VILLAGES PERCHÉS EN VAE DANS LE SAINT-CLARAIS

Departure from the Tourist Office of Saint-Clar. 0 km - St-Clar - By the D 40, opposite the camping car stop, turn right at the iron cross to go down into the valley cross the river Arratz on a charming little bridge. At the intersection (Le Clicon), turn right towards St-jean/Biar, follow the Arratz valley (water mill, dovecote) for 2000m and go up to the village of Avezan. 3,5 km - You arrive in Avezan where you can visit the 12th century castle and the the Planeso garden. Cross the village until you reach the village hall and take the road to the right until you reach the D167 Turn right towards Gaudonville, a few metres further on the right you will see the chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Tudet, a former place of pilgrimage, and the bell tower of the old cloister. Continue towards the village of Gaudonville on the D167. 10 km - In Gaudonville, an ancient fortified village, the tower and the village gate, the market hall and the church with the 5-opening bell tower. Continue towards Le Casteron on the D251. 12 km - Le Casteron, the highest point of the circuit, with a magnificent view from the from the old castle on the Gers countryside and in good weather to the Pyrenees. On the left, by the D 170, to St Martin, you will have a st Martin, you will have a magnificent view of the Gers on the left and the Tarn-et-Garonne on the right. 16 km - St Martin, old castle (private). Take the D13 down to Mauroux. 18.5 km - Mauroux, you will see old stone houses, remains of ramparts and, at the bottom of the village, an old circular wash house. (Nearby is the Ferme des Etoiles) Then go up towards St Créac. 20,5 km - In St Créac, you will admire in the church very beautiful frescos of Greco-Byzantine inspiration. In the village, turn left towards Lassalle, Flamarens and go past the circular open-air washhouse and go down to the D553 and turn left towards Saint-Clar and join the D13 to go back up to Saint-Clar arrival point. 25 km - St-Clar.
