Stroll around Échilleuses and try to spot frogs, which were once so numerous that the inhabitants of the commune were nicknamed "frogs" by the residents of the neighbouring villages.

Echilleuses was in the Middle Ages a fortified village, surrounded by walls and ditches which were destroyed during the Revolution, but part of which can still be seen (wall pierced with loopholes and moat) in the courtyard of the castle. The church, dedicated to Saint Medard and Saint Christopher, has preserved its beautiful Romanesque portal (12th century) with round arches falling on small columns decorated with capitals with figures. The interior, vaulted with ribbed arches, houses an interesting piece of furniture (a polychrome wooden Virgin of Mercy, a singular statue of Saint Christopher, a beautiful wooden crucifixion) and a remarkable baptistery in monolithic stone from the end of the 13th century. We can also see the early 14th century tombstone of William of Eschilleuses, repre
