Stately home, beautiful gothic windows with side benches, passageway and tourist facilities. Access: 15 min on foot
Built in the 13th and 14th centuries and then modernized. The same principle of defence can be observed there as in the Wasenbourg castle in Niederbronn-les-Bains The dwelling rests on a blind shield wall. This covers a wide flat front and also protects the lower courtyard. In the gun age, the defence was completed by a pentagonal bastion to the east and a large round tower to the south. This barbican even has cannoniers with horizontal fire. The history of New and Old Windstein is not easy to untangle. New-Windstein was definitively abandoned after the Thirty Years' War at the end of the 17th century New Windstein is undergoing a revival. A dynamic association is restoring and enhancing this ruin, which has outstanding architectural features and is particularly well preserved and maintained.
