ANCIENNE ÉCOLE NORMALE

In 1868, Savenay lost its sub-prefecture status to Saint-Nazaire. However, it was chosen for the establishment, in 1872, of the new Ecole Normale d'Instituteurs. The premises were inaugurated in 1912. It is occupied during the First World War and becomes, in 1917, a very important American hospital. Then, during the Second World War, it was taken over by the German army. After the war, it became a normal school again until the early 1980s. Today, it houses a high school whose main entrance retains the pediment of the former teacher training college.
