Semide - Village Fleuri "4 fleurs"

France > Grand Est > Ardennes > 08400 > Semide > Mairie

Semide, a village of 200 inhabitants, is located 11 km south-east of Vouziers, 30km from Rethel, and 55 from Charleville. Situated at the bottom of a valley below the Champagne limestone plateau, the village, which takes its name from the stream that springs there (Sem-Ide), is worth a visit. It has a rich list of awards for villages in bloom: from the first flower in 1988 to the 4th flower obtained in 2001. This national label, renewed every three years since then (the only one in the Ardennes until 2017), was renewed in July 2018. The new signs located at the entrances to Semide integrate the concept of "quality of life". Walking through the streets of the village, one can visit the church of St Peter and St Paul (XI-XIIth then XIXth) with its contemporary stained glass window (2002). Outside the village, also worth seeing are the site of the German cannon of the Great War (classified as a historical monument), the protected natural area of "dry grass" with its flora (large variety of orchids) and rare fauna, the hamlet of Orfeuil (5km south) with its national necropolis and the German cemetery of the war 14/18.More information.
