Musée départemental des arts et métiers traditionnels

In an old woollen mill, remarkable for its roof timbers and central columns, the exhibition presents four themed levels including monumental machines (forge, power hammer, mill wheels, presses), demonstrate the traditions of the Rouergue.

Created in 1979 under the Cultural Charter between the State and the département of the Aveyron, the museum of the Rouergue in Salles la Source is situated in the magnificent buildings of an ancient woollen mill and manufacturer of local sheets: masonry work in tuf limestone, stone and wood columns, Philibert style curved roof timbers. It presents the traditional arts and crafts of the Rouergue in 4 sections: machines from years gone by (mills and presses), man and the mineral world (construction and working metals), man and the plant world (agriculture and wood crafts), man and the animal world (hunting, fishing and rearing). Reconstruction of a traditional wine cellar and a 19th century woollen mill. Planetarium to learn how to read the sky at night and understand its mysteries.
