Circuits des Croix, Oratoires et Oubliées dans la Montagnette et le village

Coming to Barbentane, take the direction of St Michel de Frigolet and leave your means of transport in the parking lot of Rampale, opposite the Moulin de Bretoule. Go on foot in the direction of St Michel de Frigolet. 1 - At 100m on the right, the Cross of Bétaran. Continue in the direction of Frigolet. 2 - At 500m on the right, the Cross of Calamagne. Continue in the direction of Frigolet. After passing the route des Carrières on the left, at the Mas de Roch, turn right and cross the montagnette by the paths of the hills and head due west towards Aramon. Caution : see important note. 3 - At about 1km, on a ridge overlooking the Rhône plain, the Croix St Julien. Head south (not towards the Rhône, but parallel to it) towards the road that goes from Boulbon to St Michel de Frigolet. 4 - At 500m, from your access to the asphalt road, going up to Frigolet, on the left the Croix de St Thérèse. Go back in the direction of Frigolet, then at the crossroads, turn left and take the direction of Barbentane. 5 - At 800m, after the Mas de Chaine (the only Mas, very beautiful, which will be on your right), on the right, the Oratoire du Puits de Ville, the well is a few meters from the Oratoire. Continue on the road towards Barbentane. Turn right onto the road towards Les Carrières. 6 - 300m from the beginning of this road, on the left, the Croix de Chourlet. Continue in the direction of Les Carrières. 7 - Cross a part of the hamlet of Les Carrières and take, on the left, the road to Miassouse-Estrancrose. After about 200m, on the right, slightly overhanging, there is a field whose access is closed by a chain. Cross this field by passing on the right (respect the cultures) and take the path which goes towards the East. It is bordered, on the right, by a ditch and a beautiful row of cypress trees. Follow this path for about 800m. It is blocked at least three times with branches laid across it. On the left, on the hill side, there is a troglodyte house closed by a green door. Continue on the path for another 50m, still on the left, the sandstone "bar" of the hill stops and a horseshoe-shaped clearing opens up. Enter this clearing by skimming the hill on the left, at a few meters, as soon as it is possible, climb the rocks and go by the small path barely traced towards the west. The Croix des Monandes is right there. Come back on the path of Miassouse-Estrancrose. 8 - Turn right and continue on this path towards the village for 500m. You arrive at a cross which has no more cross. It is the Cross of Joubert. Take the path on the left of this cross. 9 - After 300m, there you come across the Cross of Bassette framed by its cypresses. Take the path towards the village. When you reach the tarred road, turn right towards the Foyer Résidence. 10 - Follow this road for 200m and, after the Foyer Résidence, on the right, at the level of the school, you have the Cross of St Marc. Continue in the direction of the Cemetery. 11 - Take the nice dirt road, on the right, before reaching the Cemetery. At 1km, on the left, the Cross of the Knights. Turn left and follow the path. 12 - At 200m, on the right, but a little far from the path, the Croix des Veuves. Go back to the path, turn right and go back to the village. 13 - At 1 km from the Widows' Cross, enter the cemetery through the gate next to the old entrance gate, go straight ahead through the main alley, at less than 50m, behind a grave, the Cemetery Cross. Turn around and leave the cemetery by the same main alley taken to enter. 14 - Leaving the cemetery, in front and a few meters below, the Calvary. In the park just below the Calvary, the building whose spire you see is a private chapel, that of the Château d'Andigné. It was built on a crypt where the members of this family are buried. Take the small road that goes to the children's park, go down the few steps and, on your left, you will see a small crypt with a recumbent, all in a sad state. Take the road opposite the cemetery, the one that goes towards the Moulin de Bretoule and you will arrive at the Parking of the beginning of the circuit... 15 - On the traffic circle, cross to the right towards the butchery Deurrieu and take the road which goes to Sur les Fourches. Follow the path to Sur les Fourches (it climbs well), at 400m, after the bend to the right, you will see on your left and above an old quarry, a square masonry column, it is the Croix des Fourches. Go back to the place St Joseph by taking the path Sur les Fourches. 16 - Half way down, take the stairs on the right. Go down them, then reach the road and take the direction of the Barbentane train station. Stay on the left sidewalk and admire the troglodyte houses on the right. At the intersection, take the Chemin Neuf and go to the traffic light. Cross over, and there, just on the right, is the Croix de la Chinquine. Return to the Place St Joseph by the route d'Avignon. 17 - At the roundabout, keep to the right and, in front of you, to the right of the café Henry, the Cross of St Joseph. Take the road that goes to La Ramière (towards the waste disposal center). 18 - At the end of the straight line, at 500m, in front of you, the Cross of La Ramière. Continue on the road of la Ramière always in the direction of the waste disposal center. 19 - Just after passing the bump of the Canal des Alpines, take the dirt road on the left and follow it to the end along the Canal. At the tarred road (the Resvaux path), turn right towards the Durance. 200m further on, on the left, at the Resvaux estate, the Resvaux Oratory. Go back in the direction of the village by the chemin des Resvaux. 20 - Follow the road (le chemin des Resvaux) until a four-way intersection, without crossing the Roubine (La Lonne) turn right and follow this road (le chemin de la Lonne), for about 3kms, until its terminus at the route de Boulbon. Then turn right for another 1 kilometer and, on the left, at the height of the Mas Liven (n°2999), the Cross of the Mas Liven. Go up the Mas Liven path, pass the farmhouse and take the first dirt road on the left. 21 - Follow this path for 300m and, when you reach the asphalt road, turn right towards the Montagnette. Follow this path to go up the Montagnette and, after 500m, facing the setting sun, you have in a natural niche the Oratory of the Rocher de Magne. Continue on the path until you reach the large EDF pylon. 22 - Turn left before the big pylon, go up above the Rocher de l'Oratoire, go down for a few meters and go due north on a clearing. In front of you, in the pines, is the Cross of L'Estaminet. Go back on your steps, go back down by the same way as you went up. Follow the asphalt road until its junction with the road to Boulbon and take the direction of Barbentane. 23 - Enter the village through the small square on the right. In front of you, you have the Croix de Meyer. Take the chemin de la Fontaine. 24 - At 150m, at the place de la Fontaine, on the right, you have the Croix de la Fontaine. Go up to the village by the path of the Fountain. 25 - From now on the next steps are not marked on the map, but with the name of the streets, it is easy to follow. After the right turn, turn left into the Chemin de Rampale, then left again into the Route de Frigolet and go up to the Place du Trou du Renard. Enter the historical center by the Pujade street (on the right) and, at the public retirement home la Raphaële, on its northern facade, you have the Oubliée(A) de la Raphaële. Go up to the historical center by the street Pujade. 26 - At 50m, take on the right the street of the Caradone. Follow this street until its crossing with the rue du Séquier and there you have the Oubliée du Séquier. Continue the street of the Caradone, pass by the right (do not go down the street of the Well) until the first passage on the left. 27 - Take the first passage on the left. You arrive on the new Belvedere square, just to admire the landscape towards Avignon and Villeneuve. Take the right street (rue des Escaliers) and go down the first flight of stairs, then turn left into rue de Saillon, leaving the place de la Salamandre on your right. At the end of the street, turn right and walk down rue du Puits to the Place de l'Église. On this square, very recently restored, you can admire on the left the House of the Knights with its arcades, in front of you the House of the Consuls, on the right the church with its Porch and its Bell Tower. Pass in front of the church and go down the Grande Rue. At its junction with the Rue Droite, at the top left, at the corner of the church, the Oubliée de l'église. Go down the Grande Rue. 28 - At the height of n°6, the "Oubliée de la Grande Rue". Before going out of the historical center by the "Porte Calendrale", take on the left the "Rue du Four". 29 - Follow the rue du Four until you reach the rue Porte Neuve. On the square on the left and slightly below, above and to the left of the bakery, the Oubliée du Petit Cours. 30 - Opposite, at the Town Hall, l'Oubliée de la Mairie. Cross the Cours, admire the Coquille which is right next to the santon house and take the avenue Bertherigues which goes down to the bottom of the village. 31 - At the level of the Monument aux Morts, at the end of the square, the Forgotten of 18 avenue Bertherigues. You can also admire the decorum of n°16. Go down the avenue Bertherigues. 32 - At n°43, above the hairdresser's, l'Oubliée of 43 avenue Bertherigues. Always go down the avenue Bertherigues. 33 - Opposite n°62, at the first passage on the left, the Oratory of the Holy Family. Return to Avenue Bertherigues and continue towards the bottom of the village. 34 - At n°66, at the very top of the façade, an empty niche, the Forgotten of 66 avenue Bertherigues. Always go down the avenue Bertherigues. Just after n°73, take the passage on the left, go along the pharmacy, cross the road of Boulbon and you are back to your starting point...
