CRYPTE SAINT-DAGOBERT

France > Grand Est > Meuse > 55700 > Stenay > 3 Place Raymond Poincaré

GATE OF THE OLD CHURCH SAINT-DAGOBERT : Stenay was a Merovingian royal residence and it is known that one of its last kings, Dagobert II, was buried there. His tomb was in the chapel of Saint Remi, which was later named Saint Dagobert's chapel. Unfortunately today, only the portal (of primitive Gothic style (13th century) of this chapel has survived the vagaries of time. Reassembled stone by stone, in a cellar transformed into crypt under the building located at 3 place Raymond Poincaré in the city center, it is preserved and developed by the association of the Circle Saint Dagobert II. TEMPORARY CLOSURE - WORK ON THE STAIRCASE TO ACCESS THE CRYPT
