EGLISE SAINT-MARTIN

France > Grand Est > Meurthe-et-Moselle > 54670 > Millery > Eglise Saint-Martin #### Place Saint-Martin

The church of Millery, whose patron saint is Saint Martin, dominates the Moselle from the top of its Romanesque bell tower, which is said to be an ancient castral tower built by the monks of Libdeau in the 12th century. This church was looted, burnt down and destroyed during the Thirty Years' War, then rebuilt in the 17th century. It was abandoned during the French Revolution and was used as a Temple of Reason, then as a hay barn from 1794. In ruins in 1839, the municipality decided to keep the tower, as well as the entrance on the bell tower side and to rebuild the nave. Inside, there are Carrara marble altars and a choir decorated with murals.
