France > Grand Est > Moselle > 57000 > Metz > Place Saint Vincent

The old Benedictine abbey of Saint-Vincent was founded in the 10th century. Rebuilt from 1248, consecrated in 1376, it is a superb example of Gothic architecture. It has a monumental classical façade, rebuilt between 1768 and 1786. After the Revolution, which marked the end of the abbey, the church became a parish church and then a basilica in 1933. The association of the friends of Saint Vincent organizes visits of the basilica from time to time. Between 1850 and 1866, the Messins Laurent-Charles Maréchal and Charles-François Champigneulle made several glass windows The site is open according to the program of events, and for the European Heritage Days.
