PLACE DU BAIN ROMAIN

France > Grand Est > Vosges > 88370 > Plombières-les-Bains > Place du Bain Romain

The name of the Place des Bains Romains commemorates the origins of the city. According to the legend, a garrison of Roman soldiers were resting not far from there. One evening when it was very cold, their dog came back soaked and smoking. Realizing that he had just bathed in hot water, the soldiers ordered the animal to show them the source. This is how the thermal waters were discovered and how Plombières was founded. Even today, many of the facilities set up in Roman times are still in use, such as the system for diverting the water, the pools, and even a bronze tap.
