PLACE MAGINOT

France > Grand Est > Meurthe-et-Moselle > 54000 > Nancy > Place maginot

The André-Maginot square, planted with trees and designed for pedestrians, is located in the heart of the Ville-neuve, between the station and the rue Saint-Jean, and belongs administratively to the Charles III - Centre Ville district. Its name was given in honour of André Maginot (1877-1932), a French politician known for having allowed the creation of the Maginot Line. The square was previously called the "Place Saint-Jean", it had a gate destroyed in 1874, the Porte Saint-Jean1. New buildings were then built, some of which are fine examples of Art 1900 in Nancy. It was named in 1940.
