SALINES ROYALES

France > Grand Est > Moselle > 57260 > Dieuze > Salines Royales

For centuries, the exploitation and trade of salt has been a source of wealth for Lorraine and in particular for the Saulnois region which owes its name to it. As a vital substance, salt has played an essential role in daily life: food preservation, curing of diseases... A sign of wealth, a source of power, it has been the focus of struggles between the powers that be. Originally, Dieuze is first of all a modest village, even a hamlet. The discovery of salt springs in the immediate surroundings must have attracted some population and this is how Dieuze became, little by little, important. All the 18th century buildings are linked to the exploitation of salt. It is possible to visit the building of the salt well (the riding school), the Délivrance (former salt stores), the administrative building and its park. The monumental main gate (Louis XV) and the surrounding walls are also to be discovered. Guided tours all year round, only by reservation with the Association des Salines Royales. Duration of the visit: 1h30.
