CIRCUIT RANDONNÉE DE REMELFING

By way of Lorraine... uh-oh! The departure is in front of the castle of Edouard Jaunez, former mayor of Sarreguemines and member of the Geiger family. Dating from 1891, Kaiser Wilhelm II is said to have stopped there in May 1905, the building is now occupied by the present town hall. Take the towpath along the Saar Canal in the direction of Zetting. Then turn right and cross the D33 to reach the Rue de la Paix on the other side of the railway line. Continue along the railway track until you reach the signposted footpath which leads you through the Remsbachwald and Honigwald forest. After the first three kilometres, you reach a beautiful viewpoint at two milestones dating from the 18th century, which marked the boundary of the Duchy of Lorraine with the territory of the Count of Nassau-Saarbrücken Continue along the edge of the Grossbannwald. Take the direction of the center of the village by the rue de la Tuilerie then the rue du 8eme Zouaves. Continue to follow the signs on your right which lead you through fields on the edge of the woods. Go through the village again to reach the Petit Freiwald, which you cross by the rue des Chênes. At the crossroads turn left into the rue des Hêtres, then right into the rue des Ormes. Finally, cross the rue de Siltzheim to reach the Grand Freiwald. Follow the signposts on the edge of the Great Freiwald. Following this path you will come to the cycle path, which you have to follow. You then pass close to the first remarkable tree: the Alisier Torminal. Just before the exit of the wood in the direction of the village, a few meters on your right, a second remarkable tree: the Cormier. Then join the town hall of Rémelfing by passing in front of the train station. In the centre of the village you will find cafés and other restaurants for a well-deserved break.
