The Romanesque art of Provence has developed on the 13 communes of Terre de Provence while being influenced by the period of Roman antiquity and the proximity of the Papal city.
The Romanesque art of Provence is very influenced by the period of Roman antiquity (from 753 to 476 BC) due to the presence of numerous Roman remains in the region. This influence is visible in particular in the elements which decorate the romanesque monuments. In Provence, Romanesque art also lasted for a longer period of time because the Gothic buildings, very high and with many openings, were less adapted to the territory
