BELVÉDÈRE CHEMIN DE FAULX À BRATTE

France > Grand Est > Meurthe-et-Moselle > 54790 > Faulx > Chemin de Faulx à Bratte

Located opposite the Tayes lookout on the heights of Faulx, a village of 1344 inhabitants, the place called "Les Saulières" proved to be a strategic location during the 1939-1945 war. Indeed, the German army had requisitioned the workers of the Pompey factory to cut wood and build shelters to store shells. From there, an artillery post aimed at the enemy troops deployed in the Moselle department. From the heights, the view of the village is exceptional. In good weather, you can see the Moselle valley, but also the hill of Brabois and the Mont Saint Michel above Toul. 54% of this territory of 1720 hectares is in natural areas and 42% in agricultural areas including many orchards (apple and mirabelle trees) which make the reputation of the village. The beech trees gave their name to the village: Fagorum Vallis from Fagus meaning the valley of the beech trees. The village includes the Lower and Upper Faulx: it is located in the valley of the Mauchère, the name of the stream that runs through the village and leaves it with a magnificent waterfall on the west side. On this slope, at the edge of the Rumont forest, there are two springs that supply the village with drinking water, "la Fontaine bénite" and "La Couleuvre".
