Nestled in a depression formed by the rivers Grosne and Pelot, the village of St Pierre le Vieux welcomes you in its bucolic setting where life is good. Situated in the middle of the mountains (from 320m to 640m), our village offers you a range of regularly maintained walking circuits, which will enable you to reach the different hamlets thanks to shaded paths, by climbing the wooded ridges and by taking the passages on the Grosne. In this agricultural commune you will meet different breeds of cattle and animal species in a green landscape. After having observed our landscape, which some people compare to a small Swiss village, do not forget to discover our heritage: - The recent village (1850-1900) dominated by our church with its Romanesque bell tower and transept, its bridges and its shady square, - To the north-east, the large hamlet of Ecussoles was the center of a Cluny deanery (936-1790), - To the south is the manor of Colettes (Xllth century) acquired by the Des Brosses family in the XVIIth century, Claude Brosses was the first to sell wine from the Mâconnais to the court of Louis XIV, - Of the 5 mills that existed in St Pierre in the 17th century, the Mathy mill and the Moulin Neuf (new mill) remain today, - The wash houses with their varied architecture scattered throughout the hamlets were a meeting place for the inhabitants at the time of the washing.
