ÉCLUSE DE PERSIGAND

? HISTORY ? in 1452, Persigand is mentioned as the site of a "chaussée à moulin et pescherie". After 1537, it was equipped with a marinière gate. By 1829, there was no longer any mill on the roadway. The canalization of the Mayenne led to its destruction. It was replaced by a lock dam, the plan for which was drawn up by Du Jardin, ingénieur ordinaire des Ponts et Chaussées, and approved by the Minister on April 4, 1865. Work, postponed during the war of 1870-1871, began after the second tender was awarded on July 15, 1872, to Souzay-based contractor René Limonier. The work was supervised by ordinary engineer Lahougue. The river was opened to navigation as early as 1873, but the final handover did not take place until November 11, 1877. A hydroelectric plant was built on the right bank in 1910. The lockhouse was enlarged at the end of the 20th century.
