ÉCLUSE DE PORT RHINGEARD

? HISTORY ? The old causeway at Port Rhingeard was used by a mill documented in 1446. After 1537, it was equipped with a marinière gate. Work to improve navigation on the Mayenne in the 19th century led to its demolition and replacement at the same location by a lock dam, built according to plans drawn up in 1865 by Du Jardin, ingénieur ordinaire des Ponts et Chaussées. Followed by his successor Lahougue, the work was carried out by Joinville-le-Pont contractors Gabriel Robineau and Edme Léger, chosen in the tender of December 21, 1867. Final acceptance took place on March 31, 1872. The lockhouse was enlarged at the end of the 20th century. More info on www.pop.culture.gouv.f | © Inventaire général - Foisneau Nicolas (author) ?
