Moulin à eau de Chatillon

France > Centre-Val de Loire > Loiret > 45390 > Ondreville-sur-Essonne > 24 bis rue du Marais de Châtillon

Ondreville had three mills, including the Essonne, born from the confluence of the rivers Œuf and Rimarde. The mill of Châtillon is a remarkable testimony of these old milling activities.

The existence of this mill is attested since the 18th century. Indeed, the bulletin of the Archaeological Society of Puiseaux reveals that "the mill of Châtillon is reported by the abbot Grand as belonging to the monks of Saint Victor. A deed of 1728 shows it belonging to the Count of Rocheplatte [...] "The first miller of this mill is called Jean Mercier. He owned the mill throughout the second half of the 18th century. The mill has four floors. This mill is the subject of work financed by the Association of Safeguarding and Friends of the Water Mill of Châtillon (ASAMEC) in order to secure it for visits.
