France > Centre-Val de Loire > Loiret > 45390 > Briarres-sur-Essonne

In the centre of this village which dominates the Essonne at what was a crossroads of the Roman roads from Sens to Chartres and from Orléans to Reims, the church is an imposing mass.

The monument is visibly made up of two parts: the nave, narrow and low, dates from the 11th century. Two centuries later, with the evolution of spirituality, a larger choir was desired. The old apse was replaced by two large and bright bays The old apse was replaced by two large and luminous bays lit on the east by the three bays of the triplet, the whole completed by a powerful tower to the north of the choir. Very beautiful altarpiece, lectern and funeral plaque from the 18th century.
