ÉGLISE SAINT-JOSEPH

France > Grand Est > Moselle > 57950 > Montigny-lès-Metz > 5 rue de l'Abbé Chatelain

The construction of the church of Saint-Joseph is partly due to Abbot Philippe Châtelain who wanted a place of worship to match the rapidly growing Catholic population in the second half of the 19th century. The foundation stone was laid on 3 May 1903. The church was inaugurated, after three years of work, on 29 July 1906, by Monsignor Benzler, Bishop of Metz. The architect Ludwig Becker, a native of Mainz, designed it according to a basilica plan, with three naves, in the Rhineland neo-Romanesque style. The stone used is Jaumont stone, as is the case for many monuments in the Messinian region.
