ABRI DU BOIS DE CATTENOM

France > Grand Est > Moselle > 57570 > Cattenom

The Maginot Line didn't just consist of large, gun-toting structures. To protect these men from bombardment, shelters were built. There were two types: deep-buried cave shelters, and surface shelters like this one. Designed to house 52 men, this shelter is equipped with a power station for light and ventilation, a coal-fired stove, an infirmary, a telephone exchange and a filter room. Most of this equipment is still in working order. Visit at 2.30pm only!
