On August 6, 1870, one of the bloodiest battles of the War of 1870/1871 took place between France and Germany. Numerous monuments still bear witness to this painful Franco-German past on the heights of Spicheren. The German military cemetery from the 2nd World War, the blockhouses and fortifications on the commune bear witness to the violence of the fighting that this cross-border area underwent even less than 70 years ago.
