Montenoy, the easternmost commune of the Community of Communes of the Basin of Pompey, is part of the canton of Nomeny. It is a small territory of 398ha, half of which is forest. This forest overhangs the village on the hillsides located north and south of it. These hillsides are part of the Grand Couronné de Nancy. On the Savrony hill, located behind you, is the highest point of the Grand Couronné (418m) The commune is located upstream of the valley of the Mauchère, a small river which has its source in Montenoy and flows into the Moselle in Custines. Montenoy, which had 160 inhabitants in the 1950s, now has about 420. The population, which became very working class with the development of the Pompey steel mill, has changed a lot since its decline in activity and its closure in the 1980s. The inhabitants work mainly in the Pompey area and in Nancy. Since 1975, there is only one farm based in the village. This one practices organic farming since 1990. The path, located on your left and which crosses the valley from one side to the other, is on the watershed of the Seille valley (on the left) and the Moselle valley.
