LANEUVEVILLE DEVANT NANCY

France > Grand Est > Meurthe-et-Moselle > 54410 > Laneuveville-devant-Nancy > 35 Rue du Général Patton

On the road to Saint Nicolas de Port, at the south-eastern limit of the town, Laneuveville devant Nancy was a Gallo-Roman site, then a Frankish one, very active where an important ceramics workshop operated at a place called La Madeleine. It was in front of Laneuveville that many warlike episodes were settled between the Lorrains and the Burgundian, French and even English armies. The town has some beautiful residences: the Grand Court castle built between the 16th and 18th centuries, the Abbé Bouzey castle whose gardens with a nymphaeum are terraced with a view of the Chartreuse de Bosserville, and the Noirot castle, both from the 18th century (private property). The church has kept its 12th century tower as well as a nave and aisles from the 13th century, restored in the 19th century The castle of Montaigu and most of the park surrounding it are located in the commune of Laneuveville. This former 18th century hunting lodge was transformed into a castle at the end of the 19th century. It was the property of Edouard Salin, a blacksmith and president of the Lorraine Archaeology Society, who bequeathed it, along with his important collection, to the City of Nancy and to the Historical Society of the Lorraine Museum. The park has a pond and a chapel dedicated to Our Lady. Enthusiasts will recognize a 150 year old oak tree and two walnut trees. Laneuveville is the site of the important industrial complex "Les soudières réunies la Madeleine-Varangéville" which became Rhône Poulenc-Novacarb. Novacarb is one of the two companies producing sodium carbonate in France. The Cités de la Madeleine, built by the architect Emile André, is a remarkable example of the working class housing estates of the first half of the 20th century: residential areas, medical and leisure services, clubs and community spaces. In Laneuveville, the connecting canal joins the Marne-Rhine canal. Don't miss the Maison de l'Ecluse! This site also offers a marvelous perspective on the Meurthe valley On the towpath of the junction canal, bicycle paths allow you to reach Fléville to the south or to the north, via Jarville, the marina of Nancy (Port Saint Georges). Admire the Madeleine canal bridge where the Marne au Rhin canal crosses the Meurthe. Don't miss the house of the Ecluse Curiosity: the observation of halophilic plants in the heart of Lorraine: Indeed, the combination of the presence of salt veins and rising water has created pools in which maritime plants can be observed, especially from seeds brought by migratory birds!
