La mort vaincue sur le calvaire, oratorio sung at the Most Holy Sepulchre of the Casarea Capella of the most august Emperor Joseph I, on the evening of Good Friday in the year 1706. Set to music by Signor Marc'Antonio Ziani, vice-choirmaster of S.M.C. Vienna, Austria. This oratorio, a jewel of the genre, performed at Vienna's Hofkapelle, depicts the oratorical joust between the Devil, who originated original sin and rejoices in Christ's death, and Death itself, who in turn takes credit for the death of the Redeemer who boasted, so the oratorio's argument goes, of being "life itself". A totally misunderstood and brilliant work.
