An architectural jewel from the early 20th century, the building, which has housed the library since 1985, was built by and for the former Caisse d?Epargne marvejolaise. In 1899, the Caisse decided to build the building. Erected in the middle of a 2600m² park, in the extension of the public garden, the building?s location gives it a very special visibility. In red brick and stone, contrasting with the surrounding cradle of greenery, this "hotel in a park" borrows from the Art Nouveau style, with its staircase leading to the arched entrance door. The building was equipped with all the modern comforts of the time. It was even equipped with an innovative exterior gas lighting system, enabling it to be illuminated on July 14 and August 15, the town's patron saint's day! In 1912, a clock was affixed to the building?s exterior façade, offering a new and practical service to the 3900 Marvejolais: the time! Now there?s no reason to be late!
