Savorgnan de Brazza, famous explorer of the French Congo, settled in the capital of Gévaudan, where he is said to have hunted wolves, for the love of a beautiful Marvejols artistocrat, Thérèse de Chambrun, whom he married in 1895. The sculpture of his bust, installed in Marvejols' pretty public garden and inaugurated in 1946, was created by Henri Louis Cordie. It pays tribute to this explorer
Savorgnan de Brazza, famous explorer of the French Congo, settled in the capital of Gévaudan, where he is said to have hunted wolves, for the love of a beautiful Marvejols artistocrat, Thérèse de Chambrun, whom he married in 1895. The sculpture of his bust, installed in Marvejols' pretty public garden and inaugurated in 1946, was created by Henri Louis Cordie. It pays homage to this explorer who conquered part of Central Africa, "without ever shedding blood" and fighting slavery.
