Château du Wineck

France > Grand Est > Bas-Rhin > 67110 > Dambach

Wineck Castle, also called Windeck or Schmalstein, was built around 1300 for the Windstein family. It was probably designed as an observation post to complement the defensive system of Schoeneck Castle

Vanguard post of the Schoeneck castle, installed on a rocky ridge and dismantled at the end of the 17th century, on the orders of the King of France. Remains of part of the walls of the pentagonal keep and the enclosure. Access: from the parking lot along the D 53 between Obersteinbach and Wineckerthal, cross the road and take the path marked with a yellow disc that leads to the castle. It takes about 20 minutes to walk there.
