Artiste/Artist : Raphaëlle Duval Date création /creation time : 2013 Matériaux/Materials : Chateaupanne limestone Description When Raphaëlle Duval arrived on the banks of the Loire, with her feet in the sand in Montjean-sur-Loire, the shape of the stone inspired this fish. The name Gioia (joy in Italian) appeared as an obvious choice. The originality of the work was born from the friendly and festive atmosphere of the symposium in which Raphaëlle Duval participated and of which she keeps a very beautiful memory. Presentation of the artist and her approach: Raphaëlle Duval is marked since her childhood by the discovery of sculpted works in Parisian museums, then by a trip to Rome. Afterwards, she studied plastic arts and then trained as a stone cutter. After ten years spent in Italy, she returned to France where she gave courses in direct carving. The artist sculptor mainly realizes figurative sculptures of which she applies herself to bring out the symbolic force. Description: "LADY LOIRE (concrete reinforcing bar) The union of the Loire and the Saint Lawrence River (Quebec) aims at creating a cultural link between two localities that have a lot in common. This woman?s head on the edge of the Loire represents the fiancee awaiting. It echoes the artist?s other sculpture along the Saint Lawrence named ?A glance towards the open sea? Presentation of the artist an his/her approach : "Gérard Thériault was born in Gaspésie (Quebec) in 1939. He attended Montreal School of Furniture, then the Art School. In the sixties, he settled in Baie-Saint-Paul where he built his house and devoted himself fully to his art. The artist works wood, stone and steel. As he is particularly interested in monumental sculpture, his carvings represent mostly human characters. "
