This program takes the listener on a journey back in time to 16th- and early 17th-century Italy, following the age-old vocal genre of the madrigal. The Italian madrigal was artistically one of the most important musical genres of the Renaissance, in which composers could freely experiment with new musical means of expressing text, means that would not have been appropriate or even permitted in motets or masses. Monteverdi lovers won't want to miss this evening of madrigals by the Profeti della Quinta. These Basel musicians, among the finest specialists in the genre, will take us back to the 17th century at the court of Mantua. Eligible for the Fête de la Musique package.
