The first part of this program features pieces by little-known composer Jacques Duphly and some of his contemporaries, all worthy heirs to the French school of the great masters Couperin and Rameau, alternating between dances, portraits and character pieces. Born in Rouen in 1715, the year of Louis XIV?s death, Jacques Duphly was organist at Evreux Cathedral, then at Saint-Eloi and Notre Dame de la Ronde in Rouen. He then settled in Paris, never to leave again (he died in July 1789, the day after the storming of the Bastille), and devoted himself exclusively to the harpsichord, between giving courses and composing his 4 Livres published between 1744 and 1768. The second part of this concert is devoted to the Neapolitan master Domenico Scarlatti. Eligible Pack Fête de la Musique.
