The painter Louis Français was born in Plombières in 1814 and died in Paris in 1897. He was one of the first painters to join the Barbizon school. This school is going to set up the landscape of after nature. These are the beginnings of impressionism. In 1901, this monument is raised to the glory of Louis Français. It was built by Emile Peyrot who received the Grand Prix de Rome for this work. Composed of granite and bronze, the statue takes up the important elements of the artist's life, his painting and nature. The work is registered as a historical monument since 2001.
