At the age of twenty-two, the young Handel had his sights set on glory, and arrived in Rome after stops in Hamburg and Florence. Here, despite the fact that operas were forbidden by papal decree, the composer brought his entire theater into the oratorio, a genre particularly prized by the nobility and the great cardinals of the Eternal City. This was to be Il Trionfo del Tempo, and then very soon this Resurrezione, in which Handel became more Italian than the Italians, surpassing his models Stradella and Scarlatti, thanks to a shimmering orchestra and melodic inspiration at every turn. Resurrection? More like the conquering Ascension of a master already confident in his craft!
