In Alsace-Lorraine, Lutzelbourg, your base, welcomes you with its fortified castle and its famous crystal cutters. On all the routes, corbelled houses with flowered balconies, beautiful churches with cut-out or bulbous bell towers, wrought iron gates and a thousand architectural details put the smallest villages in celebration. During your stopovers, you will find that the tables are also in celebration: sauerkraut, charcuterie, but also extraordinary pastries with red fruits, mirabelle plums and quetsches. On the Saar Canal you will sail through wooded surroundings, animated by small towns well equipped with restaurants. Sarreguemines offers you beautifully decorated earthenware. On the way back you pass by the inclined plane of Arzviller, a water bathtub which replaces the ladder of 17 locks. The Canal de la Marne au Rhin takes you to Saverne (Palais des Rohan) and through the Alsatian plain, leads you to the heart of Strasbourg. In Toul, a city fortified by Vauban, Lorraine opens up to you on either side of the Moselle loops, as generous with the beauty of its countryside as it is with its architectural heritage, of which Nancy and Metz are the highlights.
